Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has responded to claims the club are looking to resign Chelsea striker Marc Guiu in the January window.

The Black Cats travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with both teams currently level on points after eight games.

Having thrashed Ajax, Chelsea will be looking to continue their momentum against Sunderland and make it five wins in a row in all competitions.

Sunderland boss speaks on Marc Guiu

Sunderland will likely pose a tougher test than Ajax, with Enzo Maresca likely once again to make a number of changes to the team.

Guiu is likely to start having scored against Ajax, and he was taken off at half time, surely with Saturday’s game in mind.

The Spain under-21 international joined Sunderland on loan in the summer, but Chelsea opted to recall Guiu after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury.

Guiu has had to be patient for opportunities, but he’s now featured in Chelsea’s last three games, and is proving to be a useful player for the Blues.

Sunderland have been linked with a move for Guiu in January, but Le Bris has said it’s not something the Black Cats are currently exploring.

“The problem for him is he’s played for Sunderland and Chelsea, so if he has to go on loan it’s only for Sunderland, so it might be the only choice but it’s up to us to decide,” he said as quoted by The Sunderland Echo.

“At the minute we have good strikers and we don’t need anything at the minute.”

Liam Delap expected to return to training soon

Whilst Guiu has looked impressive in his recent performances, Chelsea have been boosted by the news that Delap is expected to return to training in the coming days.

Marsesca stated before the Ajax game Delap would be back in training in soon, and the striker has been absent since the win against Fulham at the end of August.

The return of Delap will be a huge positive for the club, but it could be a number of weeks until he’s back on the pitch.
