Chelsea legend Didier Drogba believes Enzo Maresca is doing a good job at the club as he urged fans to trust the process.

Maresca is now in his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge after being appointed Mauricio Pochettino’s successor in the summer of 2024.

The Italian had a successful first season in which he guided Chelsea back into the Champions League, and won both the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

Didier Drogba shares his opinion on Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have a mixed start to the season and have 14 points from their first eight games, and are five points behind early leaders Arsenal.

The Blues host Sunderland on Saturday, and a win would be their fifth in a row in all competitions, after suffering back to back Premier League defeats to Manchester United and Brighton.

Following those defeats questions were asked about Maresca, but Chelsea are said to still fully back him and aren’t thinking about a change anytime soon.

Maresca’s job is expected to be reviewed at the end of the season, and Drogba has now had his say on the the 45-year-old.

“He’s there and he’s doing his best, he’s doing well,” he told Sporty TV.

“So why do you want to start thinking, if he’s the right guy?

“The guy is winning trophies, he’s making the right decisions. And listen, in the season, you’re going to lose a lot of games.

“You’re going to win a lot. The goal is to learn from those defeats and reduce the amounts of defeats and increase the amount of wins.

“So I think he’s learning. He’s learning like all these kids, discovering the Champions League for the first time. So it’s a process. You have to trust it.”

Chelsea expected to qualify for the Champions League

Maresca is once again expected to guide Chelsea to Champions League qualification and go on deep runs in the cup competitions.

The ultimate aim is to win the Premier League, but the feeling is Chelsea aren’t quite ready to do that, and need to add a top goalkeeper and centre back to their squad.

Chelsea appear to be going in the right direction, but there’s still plenty of work to do to close the gap on Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
