Manchester United registered a dramatic 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday.
Matheus Cunha, Casemiro and Bryan Mbeumo fired United into a commanding 3–0 lead, before Brighton clawed their way back with two goals to set up a tense finale.
However, Mbeumo wrapped up the game with a late thumping strike to help United climb to fourth place.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and other senior executives were in the stands to see the team win their third consecutive game.
Journalist Samuel Luckhurst revealed on X that Ratcliffe gave a standing ovation to Casemiro after his long-range goal in the 34th minute.
Casemiro continues to prove critics wrong
A United player must have character and determination and Casemiro embodies that perfectly.
The 33-year-old showcased his elite vision early on, spotting Matheus Cunha drifting into space on the left.
His deft pass allowed Cunha to take a touch before curling a sublime effort into the far corner.
Luke Shaw regained possession a few minutes later and linked up with the veteran midfielder.
With Brighton players expecting him to pass, Casemiro gambled by unleashing a shot that took a wicked deflection and flew past the helpless goalkeeper.
As the ball hit the net, Ratcliffe stood and applauded his midfield general.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes have started to click in midfield.
The duo operated higher up the pitch, pressing with intensity and dictating play between the lines.
Casemiro also played seven passes into the final third, completed five ball recoveries and made three tackles.
When the Portuguese coach replaced him with Kobbie Mainoo, the difference was immediate.
Brighton began to find space in midfield, and United suddenly looked exposed forcing them to concede twice.
Earlier this campaign, Chelsea and Manchester City scored all their goals when he was either off the pitch or yet to be introduced.
It is no coincidence that Casemiro may not be the best version of himself but he is still undroppable in this United side.
Both Ratcliffe and Amorim are aware of it.
