Aston Villa face injury blow after Man City win as Emi Buendia seen in worrying image

Aston Villa could be set for a spell without Emi Buendia.

Buendia has been a star for Villa this season, having returned from a lacklustre loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen in the second half of last season.

The Argentine started once again as Villa secured a 1-0 win over Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday.

Matty Cash scored the controversial winner against City, but not before the Villans had lost Buendia to injury earlier in the first half.

Footage has now emerged of the Argentine leaving B6 in what is bound to be a sizable blow for Unai Emery and his side.

Emi Buendia left Villa Park on crutches after Manchester City win

Buendia was linked with a Villa exit over the summer as it seemed highly likely that the attacking midfielder would be on his way out.

It had felt as if the claret and blue outfit had moved on from the ex-Norwich City man while he was out injured for the entire 2023-24 season.

Villa qualified for the Champions League without the former record signing, but financial restrictions forced Emery to utilise him.

An initial negative has been turned into a positive by Buendia, who has become an integral part of the squad with five goal involvements already.

It was hugely frustrating to see him hobble off against Man City after what had been a positive start to the clash in B6.

That annoyance has only been echoed after fan footage emerged of Buendia departing Villa Park in a protective boot and on crutches.

This could prove to be purely down to precaution, but it does feel likely that a spell on the sidelines could follow the win against City for the number 10.

Jadon Sancho replaced Buendia for Aston Villa vs Man City

Buendia’s loss could prove to be Jadon Sancho’s gain as the Premier League season progresses.

The Manchester United loanee has struggled for minutes this season as illness has taken a toll on his availability in B6.

This has changed in recent weeks, with the winger starting in the Europa League defeat against Go Ahead Eagles.

Sancho came off the bench to replace the injured Buendia against City and put in a positive shift before later being taken off again.

The Englishman so nearly got on the scoresheet but could soon become an integral part of the Villa squad should the Argentine be out for a lengthy period.
