We’re trying to find some positives from Saturday’s defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League, and we’re struggling.
Garnacho is “starting left winger” – but competition will be getting more intense
The game pretty much peaked for us after 4 minutes when Alejandro Garnacho scored his first Chelsea goal, and on the London is Blue podcast they spoke about that and the potential positives of having him in form:
“The early Garnacho goal, really fantastic, well taken shot while driving into the box, which is a novel concept for a winger I know,” presenter Dan Dormer said sarcastically.
“But it was really enjoyable to see that. I really enjoyed the goal celebration. I was super happy for the guy,”
“I was really pleased. I liked the celebration. You can see he’s been waiting for it. I think he’s a great player, and I think he’s our starting left winger,” added their guest.
It really looks as though Garnacho is going that way. Right now he offers more than Jamie Gittens on the left. What’s interesting will be what happens when Liam Delap and Cole Palmer are both back and offering Enzo Maresca more options and configurations, especially with Pedro Neto able to play on the left.
Garnacho has the place for now, but will need more than just this goal to hold on to it long term.

In other news…
Enzo Maresca had to back track in his recent comments about long throws, now insisting that he’s going to one day evolve to use them.
One player who has done well despite Chelsea’s recent struggles is Pedro Neto, although Enzo Maresca is still demanding more from him, as he revealed when speaking in the presser today.
