'I'd do everything' – King tells Aston Villa to move mountains to block star player exit amid latest news

PL News Friday 31 October 2025 - 06:43

Ezri Konsa is the latest Aston Villa star to be linked with a move away ahead of the January window.

The Villans’ PSR constraints prompted several high-profile players to be linked with a move away from Villa Park in the summer.

Morgan Rogers was among the Aston Villa stars who attracted interest from elsewhere, as did the likes of Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez.

Unai Emery and Co. ultimately made it through the summer window unscathed without losing any of their most important figures, but that may not be the case for them this time around.

Ex-Aston Villa employee shares Ezri Konsa transfer stance

Aston Villa are now sweating over Ezri Konsa’s future, with teams queuing up to try and prize him away from the second city outfit during the January window.

Manchester City and Tottenham are seemingly the leading candidates at the moment, while Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Napoli are also keen on the centre-back.

Konsa is under contract in B6 until the summer of 2028, but the temptation of a big sale to alleviate their PSR concerns looks set to face the Villans once again.

However, ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – is adamant that they should be doing everything in their power to keep the defender around, if they want to realise their ambitions.

“I’m not surprised they’re facing interest in him (Konsa),” King said.

“He looks likely to be a member of the World Cup squad next year. If I were Aston Villa, I’d do everything to make sure he doesn’t go anywhere.

“If they want to challenge for the Champions League places, he’s one of those players that they have to keep.”

Ezri Konsa set for special milestone vs Liverpool

Konsa has been an excellent servant for Aston Villa since his arrival from Brentford in the summer of 2019.

He arrived at a club about to undergo its first season back in the top flight after a three-year exile, and is now part of a project where anything other than Champions League qualification is viewed as a frustrating season.

The defender is set to make his 250th appearance in the famous claret and blue against Liverpool on Saturday night, in what will undoubtedly be a momentous occasion for him, especially if it can be backed up by a positive result.

Only John McGinn has made more appearances for the club than Konsa in the current squad, and Villa will hope that he still has many more ahead of him in the future.
