While Moises Caicedo got a lot of the praise, Robert Sanchez was also superb for Chelsea in their win over Tottenham at the weekend.

The goalkeeper stayed strong in goal against a barrage of set pieces, and at full time got a lot of praise from pundits and his fellow players.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Sanchez was asked about what Enzo Maresca had said to his team at full time after an important win:

“He said that it was amazing, that we had an unbelievable reaction,” the goalkeeper said.

“He said if we play like this every game, it’s pretty hard to lose a game. The 50-50s, challenges, set-pieces, helping everyone, creating chances.

“Against Sunderland we needed to do better and just learn from it. We’ve struggled this week mentally but at the same time, we’ve pushed hard to get those three points today.”

We couldn’t agree more – we loved almost everything about the performance, especially those things the coach listed. Of course the finishing needs to be improved: there’s no way that we should be going into those final few minutes without at least a second goal. But overall, an impressive effort and one that improves the mood around the club significantly.

Now we want to see similar intensity against Qarabag later this week, please.

That wasn’t the only subject on the keeper’s mind. In the same interview he also spoke about how new managers, new signings and injury had affected his form and confidence early in his Chelsea career. Are you buying it?

Sanchez also hailed teammate Moises Caicedo for his impact on the game. The dynamic midfielder led the press with superb energy and inspired his whole team to compete higher up and more intensely.
