Manchester United are set to receive a major boost after the November international break.
Academy star Sekou Kone suffered a horrific head injury in the National League Cup clash against Tamworth in August.
The match had to be abandoned when Kone was stretchered off and rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
Subsequent scans confirmed a fractured eye socket, ruling the youngster out for a significant period at a crucial stage of his development.
United Under-21 coach Travis Binnion provided a positive update via BBC Sport saying: “After the international break, we think he will be ready to play, which will be good.
“He has not been able to do contact, which limits the work we can do but he is back in full training now and we will get a body of training back into him, with contact.”
Kone moved to Old Trafford from Malian side Guidars FC in the summer of 2024.
He spent the 2024–25 campaign with the academy to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football.
We believe United had planned to promote him to the first team this season after sending Toby Collyer on loan.
However, his unfortunate injury forced them to change their plans.
The Mali youth international is widely regarded as a long-term successor to Casemiro, whose contract enters its final year at Old Trafford.
Kone is known for his ball-winning ability, tactical awareness, and calmness under pressure.
He is a technically sound midfielder and United will hope he further polishes his ball progression skills.
The international break ends in the final week of November, and Kone is expected to step up his comeback with the Under-21s soon after.
After nearly three months on the sidelines, he may require a few more academy games to regain his rhythm and confidence.
Manager Ruben Amorim will be eager to integrate him into senior training sessions, though a first-team debut before the new year appears unlikely.
