Injury Expert raises 'bigger question' for Emery over handling of Aston Villa player

PL News Wednesday 5 November 2025 - 06:13

Jadon Sancho’s substitution against Manchester City begs the question of whether the decision was fitness-related or football-related.

Sancho replaced Emi Buendia against Man City 30 minutes into the first half, the latter of whom was spotted on crutches after the game.

However, Evann Guessand replaced Sancho 74 minutes in after an average performance.

While the game against City ended in a 1-0 win for Villa, there were still questions about why Unai Emery decided to take Sancho out.

Jadon Sancho’s substitution has created more questions than answers

Villa signed Sancho from Man United over the summer on a season-long loan, but the winger has failed to impress.

His performance against Man City is one example:

As a result, it is not difficult to see why some would deem his substitution to be football-related.

However, the star forward has remained on the bench for several games this season. Indeed, the reason behind this is believed to be fitness-related, as Sancho arrived towards the end of the summer transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar agrees that players need a run of games to return to match fitness. However, he maintains that the reason behind Sancho’s inconsistent minutes is unclear.

“Players typically need a run of multiple matches on the bounce to find full match fitness,” Brar said.

“The bigger question for Sancho is whether he was removed for fitness reasons or footballing reasons.”

While fans have been left in the dark, things may become clearer if Sancho starts Villa’s Europa League game against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday.

Jadon Sancho should follow Marcus Rashford’s blueprint at Aston Villa

Marcus Rashford signed for Barcelona on loan over the summer and has since made a noticeable impact.

Indeed, the left-winger has scored six goals and has provided seven assists in 14 games this season.

He was also excellent while on loan at Villa, where he netted four goals and provided six assists in 17 matches.

After what is shaping up to be two successful loan spells, Sancho should take notice of his Man United teammates’ performances and attitude these past couple of seasons.
