Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has made a fine start to his life in England after arriving from RB Leipzig earlier this summer.
United splashed a hefty £73.6 million to land one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards, a clear statement of intent from the Old Trafford hierarchy.
Club Director of Football Jason Wilcox has already heaped glowing praise on the 22-year-old, backing him to become “an amazing player” at Manchester.
Wilcox said (via ManUtd.com): “Benji, at the top end, he’s going to be an amazing player.
“It’s difficult to be the no.9 at United and I know sometimes that Matheus and Bryan are getting a lot of credit, but the runs that Benji is making are also helping Matheus and Bryan as well.
“All four of them have done really well, the summer signings from last year, they are top professionals.”
Benjamin Sesko will succeed at Man United
Sesko has two goals and one assist to his name in 586 minutes of Premier League action since his transfer to United.
The Slovenia international has demonstrated solid hold-up play, often dropping deep to link attacks and release runners like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha into dangerous areas.
Goalkeeper Senne Lammens has resorted to long kicks over the last three games, and Sesko has served as a fantastic target man.
The centre-forward has shown glimpses of his immense talent, leaving little doubt that he will enjoy a successful career at Old Trafford if he keeps his head down.
Wilcox is spot on with his comments. Playing as a number nine for a club like Manchester United is a daunting task, not least because of the constant, often illogical criticism from certain pundits.
Sesko will need to show mental steel to shut out the external noise and focus purely on delivering in front of the goal.
He may not see much of the ball during games, but his challenge will be to make every touch count.
