Chelsea take on Qarabag tonight in the Champions League knowing that a win puts them into strong position in the group stage.
Chalobah on Chelsea needing to get points their performances deserve
Speaking to the club’s official website, Trevoh Chalobah recognised that a good performance against Bayern Munich in the opening game hadn’t been rewarded with points, increasing the pressure on these later games:
“We played well against Bayern, the scoreline didn’t show that, but that’s the level we want to be at,” Chalobah said.
“We had moments where we knew we could match them, but it was tough. You could clearly see the quality. We’re going into every game knowing it’s going to be difficult.
“The Champions League is where we want to be. This is what we were fighting for last season. Now we’ve got to grab it with both hands and enjoy it. Hopefully it will be a good ride.”
He’s absolutely right – think of the effort that went into getting into this competition last season. We’ve got to make the most of it, and that may mean playing a stronger team than we’d like to make sure we get the points we need.
But we should be heartened by our showing against the best team we’ve faced so far, not discouraged.
In other news…
Yan Diomande is an exciting rising star in Europe who Chelsea are apparently keen on. The 18 year old is tearing things up for RB Leipzig, and if he keeps playing like this there’s going to be a major bidding war for him in the summer.
Chelsea are hoping that a player already on their books can give their team a boost as soon as tonight – Liam Delap should be starting for the Blues in Azerbaijan.
