What Qarabag’s goalscorer thinks of Enzo Maresca after Chelsea draw in Champions League

Chelsea were disappointing by their 2-2 result against Qarabag last night, and conversely you’d expect their opposition to be delighted.

But instead, an interview with one of their goalscorers showed that the Azeri team actually thought they deserved more. They roared back from 1-0 down to take the lead, and really had a load of good chances in the second half to win it, even once Chelsea had equalised through Alejandro Garnacho.

“I could say we were a bit disappointed; we wanted more, but it’s Chelsea,” Cape Verde attacker Leandro Andrade said.

“They’re champions of the world. They have a superb coach, so I would say a point was not bad. It was all right.”

“We just continued to play, trying to showcase our football, not thinking the game was over.”

It shows how poor our level was that an opposition player is disappointed that they didn’t beat us.

No disrespect to Qarabag – they put in a brave performance and were full of grit and fight. But any team we put on the pitch after £2bn spent should be sweeping them away. We certainly shouldn’t be leaving them thinking they deserved more from the game.

This wasn’t a weak team either – Enzo Maresca went with a strong side and we still didn’t get the job done.
