Romeo Lavia lasted just 8 minutes of last night’s Qarabag game before limping off hurt.
After the game, Enzo Maresca said he wasn’t sure how severe the problem was, but said it looked like a “quad injury.” We await more news, hopefully in tomorrow’s press conference ahead of our game against Wolves this weekend.
Lavia signed for Chelsea two and a half seasons ago and still has yet to play 90 minutes.
Chelsea ready to dive into transfer market again after latest injury issue
In the meantime, the Chelsea Chronicle are claiming that the Blues are now considering signing “a new central midfielder at the end of the season.”
It’s a big claim from them, and we don’t really like the implication that this news has anything to do with Lavia’s latest problem. They say themselves the injury “isn’t kickstarting anything particularly.”
We’re sure Lavia’s ongoing issues have meant they’ve always been concerned, and this latest issue won’t have changed much. The real frustration this season has been that Dario Essugo has not been able to play a minute of first team football thanks to an injury of his own.
We expect him to get a decent number of minutes in the back half of the season – if he looks good, don’t expect major spending in the middle of the park next summer. But if he struggles and Lavia keeps getting injured, anything could happen.
In other news…
Reece James spoke to the media post game and had a lot of praise for his teammate Estevao, who had opened the scoring but saw his teammates let him down as the game wore on.
James had already mentioned “one thing” he thought his team needed to improve as this season starts to take shape with some familiar patterns in place.
