Manchester United are monitoring the performances of midfielder Sergej Levak for the Atalanta Under-23s this season, according to Calciomercato.
The 19-year-old signed for the Bergamo outfit on a free transfer from Roma last summer and has since exclusively played for the reserve side in Serie C.
Levak has been described as a ‘Rodri-like’ midfielder, who has an ‘impressive timing’ into the box. He has been tipped to make his first-team debut soon.
Despite playing reserve team football, a number of big clubs are watching him, including United, who have had a scout tracking his recent displays.
United could be tracking Levak’s overall potential
Levak has made 13 appearances for the Atalanta Under 23s in Serie C, scoring three goals.
The teenager can operate as a central or defensive midfielder, and has caught the eye with his mobility, good work rate and ability to get into scoring positions.
United are obviously planning to invest in their midfield next summer. Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson appear to be among the prime targets for the club.
However, they could also pursue a younger talent who can develop over the next few years.
Levak has excelled at the development stage. United will be keeping an eye on how he fares if he were to make first-team appearances during the rest of the season.
United have a good working relationship with Atalanta, having signed Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund in the past, but the Serie A outfit are not easy to negotiate with.
If Levak were to make his big breakthrough, Atalanta could seek a good transfer fee for his services.
